Sharpeville, South Africa – The Sedibeng Community Safety Forum has launched its 2025 Cycle Tour Crime Awareness Campaign, a multi-day initiative targeting various social challenges facing the youth. The tour, which kicked off on July 28, 2025, with a launch at the Sharpeville Police Station, is set to visit four secondary schools across the region.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Constable Busi Sango, the campaign began with a briefing session at the Sharpeville SAPS Boardroom before cyclists and a convoy of stakeholders proceeded to Mahareng Secondary School in Boipatong on the first day. The second day, July 29, 2025, saw the tour visit Suncrest Secondary School in Vanderbijlpark.

Today, July 30, 2025, the campaign reached Mopholosi Secondary School in Lakeside proper, marking the third day of the initiative. A key focus of today’s program was Trafficking in Persons (Human Trafficking), aligning with International Human Trafficking Day and its theme, “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime – End the Exploitation.” Peter Kele, Assistant Manager-Crime Prevention and Community Liaison Officer, highlighted that victims of human trafficking can be anyone, including friends or family, and urged communities to report such crimes.

The tour’s final stop will be at Lakeside Secondary School in Palm Springs on August 1, 2025.
During school visits, various stakeholders addressed approximately 1132 learners on crucial topics such as bullying, sexual offenses, teenage pregnancy, mental health, life in prison, initiation schools, and cybercrimes. The comprehensive list of participating stakeholders includes government departments, law enforcement, non-profit organizations, and community groups, all working together to create a safer environment and bring positive change to the learners.
