The Gauteng Department of Health has apologised to student nurses affected by delays in stipend payments caused by administrative issues. The department said officials are finalising the verification and capturing of documents needed to process payments for about 500 students across four nursing colleges. Payments are expected to be processed on 2 June 2026 and reflect in students’ accounts by 4 June 2026.
As a temporary measure, affected students have been released for recess while colleges work on recovering lost academic time once they return on 8 June 2026. The department assured students that the delays will not affect the standard July recess and said curriculum plans will be adjusted to ensure academic and clinical training requirements are completed.
