NATIONAL ASSEMBLY – President Cyril Ramaphosa told the National Assembly that South Africa’s Constitution remains the foundation of democracy and that the Presidency serves as a strategic centre to coordinate government, drive reforms and ensure delivery of national priorities. He said the economy is showing signs of recovery, with improved macroeconomic conditions, stronger revenue collection and positive credit outlook upgrades. He also highlighted major investment commitments, infrastructure spending of about R1 trillion, progress in ending load shedding, and improvements in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and logistics.
Ramaphosa acknowledged ongoing challenges, including global economic pressures, rising oil prices, job losses and persistent service delivery failures at local government level. He stressed government’s focus on fighting crime and corruption, strengthening law enforcement, addressing gender-based violence, and managing migration lawfully. The President also outlined plans to tackle the water crisis, reduce youth unemployment through expanded employment programmes, and reform skills development systems. He concluded by calling for unity, faster implementation of reforms, and renewed commitment to building a capable and ethical state that delivers services and opportunities to all South Africans.
