EKURHULENI – Residents of Daveyton, east of Johannesburg, marched through the township calling for undocumented foreign nationals to leave South Africa. The protesters urged authorities to strengthen the enforcement of immigration laws, saying undocumented migrants are placing pressure on local communities.
The march comes ahead of a June 30 deadline set by anti-immigration groups, including Operation Dudula, for undocumented migrants to return to their countries of origin. Organiser Oupa Sello said residents are concerned about the growing number of undocumented foreigners, alleging that some are using fraudulent documents, and argued that stricter immigration controls are needed to help address challenges facing the country.
