Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Willie Aucamp, joined government leaders, SANParks officials, traditional authorities and stakeholders to celebrate the centenary of Kruger National Park. The event marked 100 years of conservation, scientific research and tourism, highlighting the park’s growth into one of the world’s most recognised protected areas.
Aucamp said the park’s success has been built on a balance of conservation, research and tourism, which have shaped its development and global reputation over the past century. He described Kruger as a national treasure, a living classroom and a source of inspiration, stressing the need to preserve its legacy for future generations because of its environmental, cultural and emotional significance to South Africans.
