RUSTENBURG – Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Kenny Morolong, has called for urgent economic transformation in the Bojanala District to stimulate growth and tackle unemployment. Speaking at the Bojanala Economic Development Symposium in Rustenburg, he warned that South Africa’s projected economic growth of one to two percent is too low to address the country’s unemployment challenges, with overall unemployment at about 32% and youth unemployment at 46%.
Morolong highlighted the importance of the region’s mining sector but said local communities are not benefiting enough from its wealth. He urged greater industrialisation, local value addition, and investment in infrastructure such as energy, water, transport, and digital systems. He also proposed a Bojanala Economic Blueprint to attract investment, create jobs, and drive sustainable development through collaboration between government, business, and communities.
