JOHANNESBURG – Former President Jacob Zuma’s lawyers have reportedly withdrawn their services to represent him in his corruption trial.

The matter is expected to sit in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on 17 May.

However, it is being reported that the lawyers Mabuza Attorneys filed a notice to the court on Wednesday morning.

They have represented the former president in the arms-deal related case, which has seen him charged with corruption, fraud and money laundering for allegedly pocketing bribes in return for “political protection” to French arms company Thales.

The attorney on record, Eric Mabuza was not immediately available for comment.

This comes less than a month before the start of his corruption trial relating to the French arms company Thales.

Recently the Supreme Court of Appeal turned down his appeal of a personal cost order for the trial.

Zuma wanted the court to come to a different decision about him being stripped of state-funded fees for his fraud and corruption trial
