LOS ANGELES- Workers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles have threatened to go on strike during the upcoming FIFA World Cup matches if U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are deployed at the venue. The hospitality staff, represented by UNITE HERE Local 11, say they want federal guarantees that immigration enforcement will not be used during the eight matches scheduled at the stadium.
The workers argue that an ICE presence would create fear for both employees and fans, making it unsafe to work or attend the games. Around 2,000 stadium workers are backing the demand, with union representatives insisting that immigration enforcement has no place at major sporting events.
