The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Orange Farms is investigating two separate murder incidents that took place in Drieziek Extension 3 and Drieziek Extension 4, according to a media statement issued by SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Shaan Motsapi on behalf of Station Commander Brigadier Mashole Manamela.
The first incident occurred on Sunday, 31 August 2025, at around 04:30 in Drieziek Extension 4. Police were called to the scene where a man was found dead with multiple stab wounds near a residential property. It is alleged that the attack was carried out by a group known as “50,” who have reportedly been terrorising the community.
A case of murder has been opened, and no arrests have been made.
In a separate case on Monday, 1 September 2025, at about 22:00, police responded to a suspected vigilante killing near the multi-purpose centre in Drieziek Extension 3. Officers discovered the bodies of three men who had been set alight with tyres and burned beyond recognition. Only one victim has been identified so far.
According to the statement, police officers faced hostility from community members when they arrived at the scene and were pelted with stones. Backup units were deployed to stabilise the situation.
A case docket of three counts of murder has been opened, and the motive remains unclear. No suspects have been arrested.
“The SAPS strongly condemns acts of violence and vigilantism. We urge community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands,” Motsapi said in the statement.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist investigations to contact Orange Farms SAPS at (011) 213 8023 / 8025 / 8026, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or use the MySAPS app.
