CHINA- Talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing produced limited breakthroughs but reinforced the view that relations between the United States and China have settled back into a long-running strategic and economic rivalry. Despite earlier tariff tensions and a brief trade détente, both sides remain largely stuck on core disputes.

For Washington, major concerns such as China’s trade practices and growing military influence in the Indo-Pacific remain unresolved. For Beijing, the talks offer some stability and predictability, with President Xi describing the current phase as “constructive strategic stability,” suggesting a managed but continuing competition between the two powers.
