The office of the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner has issued a statement after the arrest of a 34-year-old man in Sharpeville on the 4th of January 2020. The arrest came after the decomposing body of his 44-year-old girlfriend was discovered in a shallow grave in his backyard.
The deceased woman’s kin reported that they had been trying to call her since Christmas Day in vain. She lived with the suspect who they confronted demanding to know where she was but, he denied any knowledge of his lover’s whereabouts. The suspect even accompanied them to Sharpeville SAPS to report a missing person.
“A preliminary investigation led police to the suspect’s house in Sharpeville. The members arrived on site to a stench coming from the backyard…” reads the statement from the Commissioner’s office.
Captain Mavela Masondo has confirmed that the suspect was arrested on the spot and charged with the murder of his girlfriend.
