President Cyril Ramaphosa has committed his administration to drastically reducing road fatalities in South Africa. Speaking at the National Transport Conference in Midrand, north of Johannesburg, on Monday morning, the President emphasised the need for stronger efforts to improve road safety across the country.

The three-day conference has brought together decision-makers, investors and innovators to discuss ways of building a sustainable transport system that supports economic growth and job creation.

Ramaphosa noted that nearly 12,000 people lose their lives on South African roads each year, adding that government aims to reduce the number of road fatalities by half within the next four years.
