SHARPEVILLE, GAUTENG – Operation Shanela/Basadi, which was conducted concurrently at the Sharpeville and Boipatong SAPS policing precincts on August 23, 2025, has been successfully concluded, according to the South African Police Service (SAPS). The goal of the operation, which was coordinated by several law enforcement organisations and led by Brigadier Ndaba, was to stamp the state’s authority in both areas.
Over 34 suspects were arrested as a result of the operation, according to a statement from SAPS spokesperson Cst Busisiwe Sango. The arrests were made for a number of offences, such as driving while intoxicated, possessing illegal cigarettes, selling alcohol without a licence, violating the Gauteng Liquor Act, and being undocumented.
All of the detained suspects are expected to appear in the magistrate’s court shortly.
