NATIONWIDE- National Lotteries Commission (NLC) says it remains focused on supporting community development despite challenges experienced during its 2024/2025 funding round. The commission received over 3,000 applications through its new Thuthuka online system, with only compliant organisations considered for funding. More than 1,200 applications have already been processed, representing just under a third of the total submissions.
So far, about R1.199 billion has been approved for projects in sectors such as charities, arts and culture, and sport. However, the NLC noted that a significant number of applications were rejected due to missing documents, weak project proposals, and failure to meet compliance requirements. It also admitted that the rollout of the Thuthuka system caused some delays, but maintained that the platform is aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in future funding cycles.
