Motorists in South Africa are expected to face another fuel price increase in June, although petrol users may experience a smaller rise compared to diesel consumers. According to the latest data from the Central Energy Fund, diesel prices are projected to increase by about R4.41 per litre, while petrol is set to rise by around 18 cents for 95 Octane and 13 cents for 93 Octane. Paraffin prices are also expected to climb significantly due to a large under recovery.
Experts say the increases are driven by a combination of global and local factors, including geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, which have pushed up global oil prices. A weaker rand against the US dollar has also made fuel imports more expensive, while the gradual withdrawal of fuel-related tax relief measures has added further pressure on local fuel prices.
