PARIS- Morocco head into the next FIFA World Cup with high expectations after making history at the 2022 tournament in Qatar. The Atlas Lions became the first African and Arab nation to reach a World Cup semi-final, defeating Spain and Portugal before eventually losing to France and then Croatia in the third-place play-off.

Unlike in 2022 when they were considered underdogs, Morocco now arrive as one of the world’s top-ranked teams. Currently ranked eighth globally, they sit ahead of traditional football powers such as Germany and will be aiming to build on their historic achievement despite recent off-field challenges and turbulence within the national setup.
