The sentencing phase in Julius Malema’s firearm discharge case has been postponed, with the court yet to decide on an appropriate punishment. Magistrate Twanet Olivier, who is presiding over the matter in the East London Regional Court, confirmed that judgment on sentencing is not yet ready.
The case was adjourned to 9am on Thursday after Malema appeared in a packed courtroom where his legal team presented their arguments. While his advocate requested that sentencing be delivered on Wednesday, the magistrate declined, indicating she needed more time. The State is pushing for a 15-year prison sentence.
