President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on South Africans to reflect on the country’s democratic journey as it marks 30 years since the adoption of its Constitution. Describing the Constitution as more than just the supreme law, Ramaphosa said it represents a solemn promise to uphold human dignity and ensure that the injustices of the past are never repeated.

As the country prepares to commemorate Human Rights Day on 21 March, he also reflected on the tragic events of the Sharpeville Massacre, where 69 unarmed protesters were killed by apartheid police. Ramaphosa urged citizens to use the occasion not only to remember the past but to assess whether South Africa is truly living up to the values and rights enshrined in its Constitution.
