JOHANNESBURG – It will take up to three years before Emfuleni’s service delivery issues are solved.
This is according to Silas Zimu, the municipality’s team administrator. He says ailing infrastructure and lack of capital has contributed to the area’s problems.
The municipality has received R1-billion from the Department of Water and Sanitation to solve the sewerage and water issues.
This revelation comes a day after residents staged a violent protest demanding a cleanup and removal of the mayor.
“We are working on raising capital to sort out these issues,” says Zimu.
“The municipality is not raising enough money,” he adds.
According to Zimu, the administrators cannot do it alone.
“We have to work with the municipalities so that we leave the structures in place,” says Zimu.
