IRAN- A reported CIA assessment has revealed that Iran could withstand a US naval blockade for up to four months before facing severe economic pressure, raising questions about Washington’s leverage in efforts to end the conflict. The report emerged as tensions between the US and Iran escalated again, with clashes reported in the Strait of Hormuz and renewed attacks involving Gulf states. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was awaiting Tehran’s response to a proposal aimed at formally ending the war before broader talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.

Fighting in the Strait of Hormuz has intensified despite a ceasefire announced in April, with Iran accusing the US of violating the truce. The US military said it intercepted Iran-linked vessels near Iranian ports, while Iran reported casualties following a US Navy attack on a commercial ship. The United Arab Emirates also reported intercepting Iranian missiles and drones targeting the country. Oil prices climbed above $101 a barrel as concerns grew over disruptions in one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
