GAUTENG- The Department of Home Affairs will host a Smart ID Card High-Impact Community Programme on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 at 08:00 at the Old Boiphelong Community Hall. The initiative is aimed at improving access to government services by assisting residents with ID applications and other essential documentation.

First-time Smart ID applications are free for 16-year-olds with an original unabridged birth certificate and parental accompaniment, while citizens aged 60 and older can also apply for free using a green ID book. ID re-issues cost R140 and require supporting documents such as certified copies or a police affidavit in cases of lost or stolen IDs. Additional services include passport applications for R600 and reprints of birth, death, or marriage certificates for R70. Payments are cashless only, accepted via Visa, MasterCard, and Apple Pay.
