Geordin Hill-Lewis, in his inaugural speech as the new Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), paid tribute to his predecessors Tony Leon and Helen Zille, recognising their role in shaping and growing the party. He addressed delegates on Day 2 of the DA Federal Congress held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand after being elected as Federal Leader, defeating Sibusiso Dyason.

Hill-Lewis was elected alongside Solly Msimanga, who becomes Federal Chairperson, and Siviwe Gwarube, appointed as first deputy Federal Chairperson. In his remarks, he highlighted Tony Leon’s contribution to transforming the DA into a strong opposition party, saying Leon helped build the foundation of a robust democratic alternative in South Africa.
