President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on all South Africans to unite behind Bafana Bafana as they prepare to compete in the FIFA World Cup for the first time since 2010. Speaking ahead of the tournament, Ramaphosa praised the players, coaches, football authorities, sponsors and development structures that helped the national team qualify. He encouraged citizens to wear the national colours, fly the South African flag and support the team throughout the competition.

The President said Bafana Bafana’s participation represents more than football, symbolising national unity, transformation and hope for the future. Drawing parallels with the 1995 Rugby World Cup, he highlighted sport’s power to bring people together across racial, cultural and social divides. Ramaphosa said the team’s diversity reflects South Africa’s progress as a democratic nation and urged citizens to celebrate both the team’s achievements and the country’s ongoing journey towards greater prosperity and unity.
