DURBAN- South Africa has dismissed accusations of xenophobia following recent protests against undocumented migrants in parts of the country. Authorities say the demonstrations have been misinterpreted and insist that the nation is not hostile toward foreign nationals.
Government officials argue that African countries must also confront internal challenges such as instability and poor governance, which drive people to seek opportunities elsewhere. The remarks come after a wave of anti-migrant protests and alleged attacks on foreigners in South Africa prompted concern from countries including Nigeria and Ghana.
