Sergeant Fannie Nkosi of Gauteng’s Organised Crime Unit told the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria that he shared confidential information with businessman Steve Motsumi because of Motsumi’s “love for the country.”

Nkosi revealed that he had forwarded an email regarding alleged Mozambican kidnapping kingpin Esmael Nangy to Motsumi, claiming his actions were motivated by concern for South Africa’s safety and security.

The revelation has intensified scrutiny over Nkosi’s conduct, with the Commission questioning whether he was prioritizing the interests of the state or those of alleged criminal networks. Critics argue that sharing sensitive law enforcement information with private individuals could undermine investigations and compromise national security.
