The system has been shut down and drained to allow safe repairs, which will begin once the area is dry. After repairs, water supply will be gradually restored to avoid further bursts and system strain, with residents likely to experience low pressure or no water during the process.
The interruption affects several neighbourhoods including Houghton Estate, Parkhurst, Killarney, Melrose, Rosebank, Illovo, Hyde Park, and surrounding areas. Water restoration is estimated for around 13:00, with Johannesburg Water indicating that updates will be provided if delays or operational issues arise.
