JOHANNESBURG – Many undocumented foreign nationals are reportedly avoiding public healthcare facilities due to fears of being targeted, raising concerns among civil society groups about a possible humanitarian crisis.
While some South Africans say clinics in Johannesburg are less crowded, others believe undocumented migrants are not the only reason for pressure on the public health system. Officials say more than 4,000 migrants have been repatriated since the March and March movement issued its unofficial deadline for undocumented foreign nationals to leave South Africa.
