President Donald Trump said the United States Navy will immediately begin blocking ships in the Strait of Hormuz, targeting vessels entering or leaving the key waterway. He also said the US will intercept ships in international waters that have paid fees or “tolls” to Iran to pass through the strait.
His announcement came shortly after US-Iran peace talks ended without a final agreement. While Trump claimed the discussions “went well” and that most issues were agreed on, he said both sides remained divided over Iran’s nuclear programme.
