The Gauteng Department of Health is coordinating the safe relocation of about 200 mental health patients from the Talisman Foundation in Johannesburg after the property was put up for sale, with vacating required by 14 May 2026. The process will follow clinical and legal guidelines to ensure patient safety and dignity.
A task team will manage individual assessments, find suitable licensed facilities, and explore family reintegration. New admissions are paused, and subsidy support will continue until all residents are moved. The NGO may reapply for a license if it secures compliant premises.
