KASHABALALA- Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has expressed satisfaction with South Africa’s ongoing mass vaccination campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) during a monitoring visit to KaShabalala village near Hazyview in Mpumalanga. He was joined by agriculture representatives from Eswatini and Mozambique to observe efforts aimed at controlling the spread of the disease.

Steenhuisen emphasised the need for stronger regional cooperation within the SADC region to effectively combat FMD and other transboundary animal diseases. He said upcoming discussions at the SADC Agricultural Ministers Meeting in Victoria Falls will focus on creating a regional strategy, including establishing an antigen bank and improving laboratory networks to enhance rapid response capabilities across member states.
