WESTERN CAPE – The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, in partnership with Stellenbosch University’s Centre for Social Justice, will host the #Action4Inclusion Social Justice Walk in Stellenbosch on 16 June 2026. The event forms part of commemorations marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Student Uprising and 30 years of South Africa’s Constitution, under the theme “From Soweto to Social Justice”. It aims to honour the legacy of youth activism while highlighting current challenges in education, particularly student debt and exclusion.

The 16-kilometre “Journey of Hope” walk will run from Stellenbosch to Kylemore and is expected to bring together students, government leaders, civil society, and academia. Key participants include Prof Thuli Madonsela and Stellenbosch University Vice-Chancellor Prof Deresh Ramjugernath. The initiative seeks to promote constitutional values, youth participation in democracy, and solutions to financial barriers affecting access to higher education.
