Six people, including a seven-year-old girl, have died following an alleged food contamination incident at Mmotong-wa-Bogobe village outside Polokwane in Limpopo. The victims reportedly ate food suspected to have been poisoned during a funeral service over the weekend, leading to a mass illness outbreak.

More than 70 people were taken to hospital for treatment, with some already discharged after recovering. According to Polokwane municipal ward councillor Jacob Ntlemo, the deaths occurred across different nearby areas, including Ga Maja, Ga Mashashane, and Seshego, while investigations into the cause of the contamination are ongoing.
