The Sharpeville Swimming Pool in the Vaal has been temporarily closed following the drowning of a 16-year-old boy. The incident occurred on Saturday when the teenager attempted a flip into the deep end, and despite immediate efforts by police and emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emfuleni Municipality said the closure will allow for a thorough review of safety measures and supervision protocols at the pool. Authorities are awaiting a final report on the incident, which will be shared with the family of the deceased and relevant stakeholders.
