The Gangsterism and Social Dysfunction seminar at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) highlighted that police alone cannot effectively address the growing sub-culture of gangs and the evolution of gangsterism in South Africa.

The seminar brought together key stakeholders from civil society, government, law enforcement, and local communities to examine the roots, consequences, and potential strategies to combat gangsterism.

Former Western Cape detectives’ head Jeremy Veary emphasized the need to empower police and other law enforcement agencies to better respond to this complex social issue.
