The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal has linked firearms belonging to businessman Calvin Mathibeli’s security company to the volatile Inanda area, following a compliance investigation in Durban.
Police have confirmed that 11 firearms from the company are currently in their custody at the Inanda Police Station. However, authorities say the exact reasons behind the confiscation of the weapons have not yet been established.
The investigation comes after the Durban High Court dismissed Mathibeli’s urgent application to block the inspection earlier this week, allowing police to proceed with their probe into the company’s compliance.
