International relations expert Dr Emmanuel Matambo has described veteran politician Roelf Meyer as a pragmatic and strategic choice for South Africa’s new ambassador to the United States. His appointment was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday.
Meyer replaces Ebrahim Rasool as Pretoria works to repair strained diplomatic relations with Washington. Matambo said the move aims to restore normal relations between South Africa and the United States after a difficult period in bilateral ties.
