GAUTENG – Residents marched through Vereeniging on Thursday, 23 July, during a protest calling for the removal of foreign nationals from South Africa. The demonstration took place between Beaconsfield and Leslie streets, prompting several foreign-owned businesses to close as tensions escalated.

According to witnesses, some protesters threw stones at shops and vehicles, while some shop owners allegedly fired shots during the confrontation. Protesters said the march was driven by concerns over unemployment and called for stricter enforcement of immigration laws.
