Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, has released the Gauteng Liquor Board (GLB) Committee of Inquiry Report and submitted it to the provincial legislature. She decided to make the report public to promote transparency, accountability, and restore public confidence after reviewing its findings.
The report reveals serious governance failures within the GLB, including irregular issuing of liquor licences, corruption, poor record-keeping, and collusion with unregulated consultants. It also highlights widespread illegal liquor outlets operating near sensitive areas such as schools and places of worship, with limited enforcement capacity due to a shortage of inspectors. Ramokgopa has pledged stronger regulation and enforcement to restore order in the liquor sector.
