ENGLAND – South Africa’s women’s cricket team made a disappointing start to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales, losing their opening match to six-time champions Australia by 65 runs at Old Trafford in Manchester. The Proteas, who were runners-up in the previous tournament in Dubai, struggled to match the Australians in the key moments of the game.
Australia posted 172 for eight in their 20 overs after South Africa managed to keep them relatively contained. However, the Proteas collapsed badly in their chase, being bowled out for just 107 in the 17th over. They will now look to bounce back when they face Pakistan in their next Group 1 match in Birmingham on Wednesday.
