The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is consulting its members to decide on Eskom’s final wage offer of a 7% increase, presented after a tense fourth round of negotiations. The talks form part of ongoing discussions at the Central Bargaining Forum, where NUM had initially pushed for a 15% salary increase along with improved benefits.

The current three-year wage agreement is due to expire in June, adding urgency to the negotiations. Meanwhile, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has already rejected Eskom’s offer, raising the possibility of further labour tensions at the power utility.
