Deputy Higher Education Minister Nomusa Dube-Ncube has called for the arrest of those responsible for NSFAS funding over 800 deceased students. This follows the Auditor-General’s 2024/25 report, which found that the National Student Financial Aid Scheme made payments to students listed as deceased in Home Affairs records.

Dube-Ncube criticised NSFAS for blaming the issue on a lapsed contract with Home Affairs, which prevented verification of students’ status, calling the explanation unjustifiable. She emphasized the need for accountability to prevent misuse of public funds.
