JOHANNESBURG – National government has stepped in to help address Johannesburg’s growing electricity crisis as the city struggles to settle its R5.2-billion debt owed to Eskom. The intervention comes amid fears of possible widespread power disruptions if the financial challenges are not resolved.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa met with Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero and Eskom CEO Dan Marokane to discuss urgent solutions. Ramokgopa said City Power is losing significant revenue because of major technical losses, adding pressure on the city’s already strained electricity system.
