The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has urged municipalities in multiple provinces to activate emergency preparedness plans in response to a severe weather warning issued by the South African Weather Service. The alert highlights an intense cut-off low-pressure system expected to bring disruptive weather conditions across large parts of the country from 5 to 7 May 2026.
Municipalities are being called on to implement precautionary and response measures to reduce potential damage and ensure community safety. This includes readiness for possible flooding, strong winds, and other weather-related risks, as authorities aim to minimise the impact on infrastructure, services, and residents.
