CAPE TOWN – The Western Cape Education Department says schools need more extramural activities to keep learners engaged and help address violence. This follows the death of a Grade 10 learner at Bellville South High School after an alleged classroom assault.
Education spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says violence in society, including gangsterism, is increasingly spilling into schools. The department is concerned about the impact of violence on learners and school safety.
