KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has confirmed that Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s contract as the provincial police commissioner has been renewed. Ntuli made the announcement during a crime imbizo held in the Pietermaritzburg area.

The premier had earlier raised concerns about uncertainty surrounding Mkhwanazi’s contract, which was due to expire at the end of the month. Ntuli said he engaged with national police commissioner Fannie Masemola several times, noting that the appointment process is guided by the Constitution and requires concurrence between national and provincial authorities.
