Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, has expressed shock after two learners were fatally stabbed in separate incidents in Johannesburg and Ennerdale. A Grade 8 learner from Forest High School died after being attacked at a nearby park, while a Grade 12 learner from Daleview Secondary School was killed while walking home.
Police are investigating the cases, and the Gauteng Department of Education has provided psycho-social support to affected schools and families. Chiloane condemned the violence and called on communities to help ensure learners’ safety.
