PRETORIA – The Madlanga Commission is expected to focus on the R300-million Aeroton cocaine bust as it continues investigating the theft and poor storage of seized drugs in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. The inquiry has been examining major drug seizures and allegations of internal involvement in the disappearance of confiscated narcotics.
The commission is looking into two significant cocaine heists, including the theft of 750 kilograms of cocaine stored in Aeroton and another involving cocaine worth R200 million in Port Shepstone. During testimony, Serious Organised Crime Unit official Gavin Jacob acknowledged discrepancies and contradictions surrounding the decision to store the drugs at a facility with inadequate security in 2021.
