KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane has condemned a church in KwaMaphumulo for encouraging followers to stop taking anti-retroviral (ARV) treatment for HIV and rely solely on faith. She called for legal action against anyone spreading such misinformation.

The Ekhaya Labafundi bakaJehova congregation reportedly requires members to abandon worldly things, including jobs and cellphones, with the leader labeling schooling and medical treatment as worldly. One congregant confirmed to SABC News that she has stopped taking her ARVs, raising serious health concerns.
