SAUDI ARABIA- Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has declared that Iran plans to maintain control over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz and exclude the United States from the future of the Persian Gulf. In a rare public statement, he also reaffirmed that Iran will retain its nuclear capabilities, signaling a firm stance on key issues affecting regional stability.
The remarks come amid stalled negotiations to permanently end tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, following a recent ceasefire. Iran’s position directly challenges U.S. demands to limit its nuclear programme and ensure open access to the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil transit route, highlighting ongoing geopolitical friction in the region.
