The Gauteng Transport Inspectorate (GTI), together with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), stepped up stop-and-search operations across Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Ekurhuleni between 13 and 19 April 2026. During the crackdown, 82 minibus taxis were discontinued due to serious mechanical defects, while 10 vehicles were impounded in Ekurhuleni to improve road safety and compliance.

Authorities also uncovered widespread violations, including unlicensed drivers and vehicles without valid licence discs. More than 1,000 infringement notices and 825 electronic notices were issued, with several arrests made for offences such as drunk driving, fraud, and damaging state property. The Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport warned that strict action will continue against non-compliance.
